James was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, and he spends most of his time working in the garden, woodworking, and writing stories about wicked, murderous children.

With a family history in the area dating back over a century, James thought that Grays Harbor was the perfect setting for his new series of novels. His ancestors worked on the fishing boats and in the cranberry bogs and canneries, helping to shape the rich culture and history of the region.

He now lives in the neighboring Lewis County, where he works full-time as a writer.
